Greetings from Gemstone Farm!

Let me introduce you to some of the finest heritage pork you’ve ever had, The Large Black, a breed that hails from Cornwall, England. The breed is characterized by great length and depth of body which produces a lean, micro-marbled meat that is extra tender due to the short muscle fibers. The cuts of pork are tender, moist and have an exquisite and unique taste.

A few important things about our Large Black’s:
  • Pasture raised from birth
  • They have a diet of acorns, hickories, walnuts, grass and plenty of fresh air and sunshine
In summer they get tomatoes, squash and greens from our garden and in the fall, all the pumpkins they want!!
  • Non-gmo feed as a dietary supplement which we source from a local mill, Beaver Creek Feed, out of Ava, MO
  • No growth hormones and no antibiotics
  • Meds only as needed under our vets recommendation

Prepare to be surprised not only by the deep, rich red color of the meat, which is often confused with beef, but by the full rich flavor. The subtle, nutty undertones will thrill your taste buds!

We belong to the Large Black Hog Association, a group dedicated to seeing this breed thrive. As you can see from the pictures below our hogs have plenty of room to grow and thrive.
